The Song of Solomon

In Ecclesiastes the “Preacher” asks the question “What profit is there?”

The Soloist (song of Solomon)  answers the  Preacher.

There is something that stands the test of time and eternity

1.     The Solution of Life – LOVE.

It is life’s greatest and most valuable commodity. It is the abiding thing. Waters cannot quench it, floods cannot drown it” It is as strong as death.

All Solomon’s wealth, wisdom and power, could not buy the love of an Arab girl.

Ecclesiastes says that many things attract

Song of Solomon says that one thing is needful for a full experience.

2.     Satisfaction of Life - Happiness is in relationships

“I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine”

True satisfaction is never found in things but in a person.

The Song typifies the love relationship between Christ and his bride, His church. Happiness is everywhere with him and nowhere without Him

3.     The Song of Life;

“I tried the broken cisterns Lord, but ah the waters failed

E’en as I stooped to drink, they fled, And mocked me as I wailed

Now None but Christ can satisfy…..

The Conclusion:

Job experienced the rough side of Life and found his answer in trusting in God- Faith

David (Psalms) found confusion of faith in the complexities and contradictions of life and found his answer in  the future when all will be level and correct- Hope

Solomon observed them all and experienced all the joyous fruits of Life yet found that only eternal things will outlast the grave- Love

And now abides Faith Hope and Love, but the greatest of these is love;

That is the message of the books of Experience
