CHRIST IN HEBREWS

It always surprises christians, when they are told just how many descriptions of Christ’s character and works are to be found in this wonderful book. Some would guess at 40, even 60, but seldom will anyone suggest that there might be over 100 

Chapter 1 

1.             v. 2.        The Living word,  God has spoken through Him
2.             v. 2         Appointed heir of all things
3.             v. 2.        The world was made by Him
4.             v. 3.        He is the brightness of God’s glory
5.             v. 3.        He upholds all things by the word of His power.
6.             v. 3.        He purged our sins.
7.             v. 3.        He sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high. Ch. 1:13; 8:1; 11:12; 12:2.
8.             v. 4.        Made much better than the angels.
9.             v. 4.        He obtained a more excellent name than the angels
10           v. 5.        He is the begotten Son of God.
11.          v. 6.        He is worshipped by angels.
12.          v. 8.        His throne is everlasting.
13.          v. 8.        His sceptre is a sceptre of righteousness.
14.          v. 9.        He loved righteousness
15.          v. 9.        He hated iniquity.
16.          v. 9.        God anointed him with the oil of gladness
17.          v. 13.      His enemies will become his footstool.

Chapter 2.
18.          v. 3.        Salvation was first spoken of by Him.
19.          v. 9.        Can be viewed to be human.
20.          v. 9.        Crowned with glory and honour
21.          v. 9.        He tasted death for every other human being.
22.          v. 10.      All things are for Him
23.          v. 10.      All things are by him.
24.          v. 10.      He is the captain of Salvation of the Sons of Glory.
25.          v. 10.      He was made perfect through suffering.   Ch. 5:9
26           v. 11.      He sanctifies.        See also ch.2:12; 11:10; 13:12.
27.          v. 12.      He is not ashamed to call those he sanctifies, his brethren.
28.          v. 12       He fulfilled prophecy to declare God’s name among his brethren.
29.          v. 12.      He fulfilled prophecy to sing praise to God in the midst of the church.
30.          v. 13.      In his humanity he trusted in God.
31.          v. 14.      He partook of flesh and blood
32.          v. 14.      He experienced death.
33.          v. 14.      He destroyed the one who had the power of death.
34.          v. 15.      He delivered those in bondage to the fear of death.
35.          v. 16.      He chose not to come to earth as an angel.
36.             v. 16.      He chose to take the seed of Abraham- a human being.
37.          v. 17.      He was made like his brethren in all things.    Ch 2:12
38.          v. 17.      He is a merciful and faithful High Priest .
39.          v. 17.      He made reconciliation for the sins of the people.
40.          v. 18.      He suffered trials and temptations as a man. Ch 5:8.
41.          v. 18.      He is able to strengthen those who are tested.

Chapter 3.
42.          v. 1.        He is to be considered and professed as our Apostle.
43.          v. 1.        He is to be considered as the High Priest of our profession.
44.          v. 2.        He was faithful to Him who appointed him into the priesthood.
45.          v. 3.        He is counted worthy of more glory than Moses.
46.          v. 3.        He is worthy of more honour than the “house”, because he is the builder.
47.          v. 6.        Christ is the Son over his own house.

Chapter 4.
48.          v. 10.      He ceased from his own works. They came to a specific end.
49.          v. 14.      He passed into heaven as a High Priest. Ch. 2:17
50.          v. 15.      He can be touched with the feelings of our infirmities.
51.          v. 15.      He was tempted in all point as other humans are.
52.          v. 15.      He did not sin.

Chapter 5.
53.          v. 5.        He did not glorify himself, by making himself a High Priest.    ch. 5:10
54.          v. 6.        He was made a priest, of the same order as Melchizedek.
55.          v. 6.        He is a priest forever.
56.          v. 7.        He feared.
57.          v. 7.        He prayed in that he feared.
58.          v. 7.        His prayer was heard.
59.          v. 8.        He leant obedience through suffering.  Ch. 2:18
60.          v. 9.        He is the author of Eternal Salvation.
70.          v. 10.      He was called to be a high priest . 

Chapter 6.
71.          v. 1.        He is the author of the doctrine of Christ.
72.          v. 6.        He can be “crucified afresh” by those who fall away from believing in Him.
73.          v. 6.        He can be put to an open shame by those who fall away.
74.          v. 20.      He has gone before us as a High Priest within the veil, to God’s presence.

Chapter 7.
75.          v. 3.        As a priest he abides forever.
76.          v. 14.      He came from the tribe of Judah.
77.          v. 16.      His priesthood is not after the law of carnal commandment, but after  power of an endless life.
78.          v. 22.      He made sure a better Covenant than the old covenant under the law.
79.          v. 24.      He has an unchangeable priesthood.
80.          v. 25.      He is able to save unto the uttermost all who come to Him by faith.
81.          v. 25.      He lives forever to make intercession for sinners.
82.          v. 26.      He is Holy
83.          v. 26.      He is harmless
84.          v. 26.      He is separate from Sinners.
85.          v. 26.      He is undefiled.
84.          v. 26.      He is made higher than the heavens.
85.          v. 27.      He does not need to sacrifice every day like priests under the old  covenant.
86.          v. 27.      He made one offering, once, and the offering was Himself.
87.          v. 28.      He is consecrated by oath (Psalm 110) for ever.

Chapter 8
88.          v. 2.        He is the minister of the true tabernacle.
89.          v. 4.        He has a more excellent ministry than that under the law.
90.          v. 6.        He is the mediator of a Better Covenant, established on Better  Promises.

Chapter 9.
91.          v. 11.      He is the High Priest of good things to come.
92.          v. 12.      He entered into the real Holy Place in heaven with His own blood, once.
93.          v. 12.      He obtained eternal redemption for us.
94.          v. 14.      He offered Himself to God, without spot
95.          v. 24.      He did not enter a holy place made with hands.
96.          v. 24.      He entered into heaven to appear before God on our behalf.
97.          v. 28.      He will re-appear, without sin. (second coming.)

Chapter 10.
98.          v. 7.        It was written of Him in the volume of the scriptures.
99.          v. 9.        He came to do the will of His God.
100.        v. 10.      He sanctifies us by the offering of his body.
101.        v. 14.      He perfected forever, those who are sanctified.
102.        v. 21.      He is the High Priest over the House of God.

Chapter 12.
103.        v. 2.        He is the author (starter) of our Faith
104.        v. 2.        He is the finisher of our faith.
105.        v. 2.        He endured the cross with anticipated joy.
106.        v. 2.        He despised the shame he was to bear on the cross.
107.        v. 12.      He sanctifies the people with His own blood.
108.        v. 12.      He suffered “outside the camp, bearing reproach.
109.        v. 20.      He is the great Shepherd of the Sheep.
110.        v. 21.      To him is glory forever.
